Georgia Turkey Season opening 2017
« on: March 21, 2017, 07:45:42 PM »
Looks bad for the opener this Saturday with three days of rain and thundestorms. I get to Georgia Sunday evening and this is my forecast:

SUN
MAR 26
Mostly Sunny
8157
10%   SSW 8 mph   60%
MON
MAR 27
Partly Cloudy
8457
10%   SW 8 mph   63%
TUE
MAR 28
PM Showers
8256
40%   WSW 9 mph   59%
WED
MAR 29
PM Showers
8558
50%   W 6 mph   60%
THU
MAR 30
Mostly Sunny
8258
20%   SE 10 mph

Like last year, I can nit make the opener. Like last year, the opener was ruined by bad weather.

Maybe someone up there is shining down on this old coot. I will take the heat and the off and in showers vs thunderstorms(  which would mean no hunting).

So, good luck to all!

I have to wait until May!    Then again, our late season last almost the whole month!

I hope you have a great time,  Flintlock!

I going to tell this story as a funny...Split Toe, Jap51 was there also.....Friday night after Split Toe had grilled out some Cheese Burgers that Jap51 had brought down, we talked about where to go hunt the next morning!! With all the logging going on the land (see pictures), I thought I would hunt where no one else hunted..it was only 6 of us down there..with this bad knee of mine, decided on hunting a food plot way in the back of our land....got set up in front of a big old wide tree with two decoys, 30 yards away....still dark, but was just breaking daylight...

When I first hooted, I drew in a another Owl, who started hooting right over my head...then far away heard two gobbles from the same bird...then to my right heard a bird and then heard one behind me. The one to my right was the closes one....started working on him. The fun had started, the one behind me had flew down and started gobbling to my left, then the one on my right would gobble. Never heard the bird that was far away, the very first one....

30 minutes had passed, the bird to my right was back and forth, back and forth, he would not get any closer..maybe it was from my ATV parked 200 yards away from me...not sure...but he still gobbled but would not come closer...wise old bird!! another 15 or 20 minutes has passed, clucked again and the bird to my left had walked closer and closer. He gobble and I thought I would get a shot at him...another 15 or 20 minutes has passed and I cackled twice and got both birds fired up...they were gobbling and saw a gobbler 70 yards away walking just outside the food plot...he was going to the other bird..

About 9:30, three shots rang out real close to me, matter of fact I jumped! Then on last one a couple of minutes later, one final shot...After that I had stood up and walked down to him..he was hunting and I hollered to him "did you get him", he told me nice calling...LOL...he had gotten two birds, two shots in each....one had about a 10 inch beard and the other one was a Jake with one or two inch beard....They had put a food plot in this past fall on their side of the property about 300 yards from our property that is where this guy had been hunting...after he shot, and about time, that I got over to him, he buddy had walked up. We all talked about what had happen and we all got a good laugh and I got to meet some of our neighbors....

Anyway told this story when I got back to camp and surprised that nobody had heard or seen any birds except me...how interesting....but it was good to get down there to see what they have done to the club....

No luck. Hot as heck. Birds silent. Thankfully I was east of the I-85 overpass collapse. Back home now.
