Couldn't stand it anymore!
« on: March 15, 2017, 07:50:11 PM »
I watched 24 hogs consisting of three different groups on the farm yesterday evening.  I was reluctant to go after them after I had just watched a pair of hooded mergansers land on one of my small ponds with a newly installed wood duck box.  Well I decided protecting my crop fields were more important than the ducks.  So today I set up on the field edge against the swamp and waited for their arrival.  After an hour and a half they showed up like clockwork.  I harvested three, but should have gotten more.  Next time I plan on taking the sks without a scope.  The two piglets were shot by looking down the barrel of the 7mm because they were too close for the scope.  Within 15 minutes of getting home, I looked in another filed and noticed a small holstein in the wheat.  Wrong, it was a black and white hog that would weigh close to 300 lbs.  I "power-walked" through the wheat to within 200 yards and let one fly using my wife's .243 as darkness was quickly falling.  I searched, but believe I missed.  Oh well, hopefully he will vacate the area for good!

Well done Ben - good to see you can reduce the population of those 4 legged rototillers a bit!
