Getting down to the wire
« on: February 02, 2017, 07:54:19 PM »
I have to go out and try this Saturday. Sunday, my son will be able to go to the movies in a wheel chair after his first surgery. We will see xXx at 1 pm at AMC dine in theatre and get back in time for the super bowl. Then he has to face surgery in May but he is one tough trooper!  Then friday after that is last day of the 2016-2017 deer season here so i will take that Friday off and then, wait for Georgia Turkey opener. I put in for Saturday only permits for up here in commie NJ. Been a 8 year drought on Tom's here so I will not buy permits for the nonSaturday hunting day options. I will go out for being a stubborn Mick but all my cards are on the tabke to close the deal in Georgia again 2017! I can not imagine getting a Tom like I did last year (as shown in my profile mug shot) but 1) to see Turkeys is at least more if a chance back in GA than up here  2) i have to pick up my turkey mount (not full body) from the taxidermist diwn in GA.

Good morning all! Go Falcons! Bagging that deer last night frees me up today to take my son to see the movie xXx at AMC dine in movies for lunch. Back in time to relax before the big game. Otherwise, if I did not get a deer today would have been complicated'

Got in my stand 2:30pm

Woods only had squirrels running about. Sun came in and out a lot. Breeze was there but not heavy. With the sun lower it lights up the leafless trees nicely.

Just around 5pm the deer came over the rise on my property near my stand. No broadside as it meandered around the trees. I said to myself to take this one. I knew it was smaller but I needed one batch of venison jerkry.

Finally, a broadside position, arrow away at 25 yards. I watched as the deer ran down the hill! Heck, down the hill! I am getting too old for this @--0--0103

Down my stand and slowly went to the lip of the hill. No white belly! No deer! Where the heck is my lighted knock?

I walked back and around to where the arrow hit. Yep! There is blood!  --9-908 Carefully, taking only a step or two at the time I scanned the leaves and found the blood. Too bad we have not had any snow, tracking in the snow is much easier. So, anyway I walk 3 feet, look around, see a change in direction of the blood trail and follow it. Then another change and so on until I see the deer did not run straight down the hill to my stream below as they usually do. This one ran along the first ledge on the hill parallel to the stream. Getting darker now but not too dark. Blood trail now turning down towards the stream. I follow, I had left my Swarvoski Binos back at the house  @--0--0126 so using my Leupold rangefinder as a bino is limiting. There, ahead the deer! Its back was facing me and with its very grey coat had to see in the fading twilight. I get to the deer and found my lighted arrow when i flipped the deer over!

So, for Superbowl Friday I can rest from fretting about not getting one more deer to end the season.

Wait, the season is not over until 2/18/17. I need more venison jerkey and backstraps so it ain't over yet!

I do not recall getting a deer this late in the season! I will need counseling when it is over. Oh, my Georgia Turkey hunt is next month! Hold off from sending a counsler until then --099-780

Thanks all! Butcher just called. Since it was a small deer, not that much jerkey but I will take what I get.

May need to get just one more deer next week!
