first ice trip
« on: December 31, 2016, 09:46:37 AM »
I went w/ a buddy to a local lake. we were told it was slow at the bait shop, but wanted to get the dust off the ice gear. we got a 4# northern on a tip-up almost immediately. @--0--0118 then not another flag the rest of the day.

as for jigging panfish, it was rough. I didn't graph a fish until just before dark. they weren't hungry @--0--0126. we caught 1 sunfish. we talked to several groups that did the same. we didn't talk to anyone that kept a fish

here's the goofy thing. there was shooting all day. it's a redneck area so who knows what they were killing. then right at dark we hear a roar/squeal like I've never heard. it was a bigger animal for sure. that was followed by 4-5 large caliber shots.  (*&^&%#maybe it was shot by a bow first and gun to follow? maybe it was in a trapped then shot @--0--0117. I was just glad the bullets weren't coming across the lake. I have no idea but it was goofy

Glad you got the dust off your gear. Things will get better later.

Better luck next time yari,  are you doing your annual LOTW trip this winter?  All that racquet could've been packers fans celebrating a win

LOTW in 1 1/2 weeks. can't wait. I heard it been very good. the fall shiner run was huge and the walleyes followed them into the bay. I saw a 14.5# was caught last week

we call that balmy on our trips. last year the high temps were -10. at night it was -25 to -30 actual temps. windchills were off the chart. at that point it doesn't matter. it's just cold

good luck. remember to send pics
