Nice doe down
« on: December 11, 2016, 06:22:40 PM »
Yesterday I posted a picture of a couple of nice does running back behind the house.  Went and sat in the drizzle this afternoon for my final opportunity with the muzzleloader this year.  My stand is right on the corner of my property, very open on my side, extremely thick to the east and a chiseled cornfield to the south.  Started hearing things moving in the thick stuff at about 3:30, but couldn't see anything.  Just before 4 there was definitely some chasing taking place in there (could hear a buck grunting) but only saw one doe and yearling, and then they took off deeper into the thick stuff.  About 10 minutes later a yearling came behind me onto my side, followed by a sibling and then momma.  They munched on Snorts Buckatash for a few minutes then came over into the oats at 20-30 yds.  Didn't act like anything was behind them, time was running down on the season, and I had a wide open shot on the doe, so put her straight down with a shot at the base of the skull.  Going to donate her, should be good stuff, no lost meat.  Didn't bother weighing her but estimate she dressed out at about 145.

Congrats,  Roger,  that is a very nice doe and a good story, too.
