Wanted to scream
« on: November 21, 2016, 01:22:35 PM »
I have only gotten out a handful of times to hunt here in Illinois, but yesterday, I had the biggest buck I have seen on my property here 20 yards, behind my stand, through heavy brush and cover.  NO SHOT, watched him walk of the other direction.  I grunted, I bleated, he could care less and just kept walking out of sight. ##$%#116  That's why they call it hunting and not killing.

They are in the rut , about the only sound that they may pay attention to is a doe's estrus bleat , there is a call made for that bleat .  ##$%#1118

He didn't have his nose to the ground, didn't look rutted up, and the does I see through out the day didn't seem to care about anything, all were just wandering around. I think it hasn't quite hit here, or it is really low key, we had record high temps until this weekend.  Strangest rut I have seen.  I hit my bleat can a couple times and he didn't even turn his head.

I almost had the same thing happen to me this afternoon, the only difference is that the buck came in around 70 yds and moving away, and I'm using a 12 ga with slugs.
