Illinois youth deer season
« on: October 10, 2016, 09:14:23 AM »
I took my 12 yr old son Tristan on his 1st deer hunt this past weekend. On Saturday afternoon we seen 11 deer and he was able to experience his first miss. He was pretty bummed but I got him thru it. Yesterday morning he seen 5 and he seen his 1st buck. He never got a shot but was super pumped. Of course we had to move the blind over to the corner of the field were the buck came out. We sat there 3 long hours without seeing a deer last night and I could see it in his face that he thought we were not going to see a deer and with a half hour of shooting light left two doe showed up at 30 yards. He quickly grabbed his gun and put it out the blind window and put a perfect shot on her. She ran 40 yards and piled up. I was so proud of him.  ##$%#11 ;D

I will post pic's later.

Awesome.   As bad as the first miss was, it will make him appreciate the first one even more.

Congrats Tristan!!!

Looking forward to seeing the pics.

Congrats on keeping at it even after a miss. Great looking doe and don't let him in on that we have all missed 1 or 10 deer also.  LOL

I filled him in on that. It happens to us all. That was a big part of the pep talk.

Congrats to both of you - great smile with a great doe, that'll provide a lot of meals.  Glad he got that first miss out of the way so he doesn't have to worry about it again (one miss is all we need, right?)   @--0--0123
