disc gang
« on: September 05, 2016, 08:04:35 PM »
well, I tore the disc apart today. lots of lube on the seized nuts and a 2# hammer from grandpa to break them lose. I knew it wasn't going to be fun. I found out this disc hasn't been made since 2005. it's a SUMMIT PLOT MULE.  I need 2 harrow disc 1" bearings. it's a one piece bearing that I wasn't familiar with

anyone use AGRI SUPPLY out of NC? they seem to be reasonable. I looked through the web and they seem to be one of the only companies that sell these. seems like more of a specialty item

I took a pic before I started. there are 15 pieces to this disc. it seemed they just put whatever spacers they could find. there is no rhyme or reason to them

Yari - I've bought stuff from Agri-supply before and never had any problems.  Good service.  You might also be able to find a local bearing distributor (Timken, etc) or maybe a shop like Graingers to pick something up locally.  I'd have to guess that is an off the shelf bearing and not something custom for that particular piece of equipment.  Is there any sort of manufacturer name and part number on the bearing itself?

there isn't anything on the bearing. I was surprised. that leads me to believe that it's pretty generic

I could try a tractor supply, but they are at least 30 miles away. internet is pretty easy these days

Have used the one in Garner NC, love shopping there.  Too many toys for my checkbook looking around there.

It is 35 miles one way from me.  Used to go every Spring to stock up on mower blades for both my John Deere riding mowers at $8 each instead of $45 a pair at Lowes.  Found blades on line with shipping coming to about the same price as gas to drive there.  Did not go this year.

Good Luck.

I worked for them years ago. The specialize in industrial parts but they represent all of the bearing manufacturers. Take the bearing to them, they will match it. I used to do it all the time for farmers...

I looked on their web page and called them. no luck. they deal w/ bigger stuff and a lot higher end stuff. looks like I will have to bite the bullet and pay the $30 shipping at AGRI SUPPLY. that just seems criminal

Well that just bites - $30 shipping?  Did you happen to check to see if Grainger carries a stock bearing with that ID/OD/thickness?

I've ordered belts, blades, cultivator parts, and I believe filters from them in the past - don't recall ever having anything out of the ordinary on shipping costs.  That just seems crazy.  They also sell a lot of nice camping & cookware stuff.

I know priority mail is a lot cheaper than $30. I think it's only $12.99. their price is good so it does offset the shipping. just seems like a lot for shipping

Yari - just thought of another place I've dealt with in the past for parts that you might want to check out - they have some locations in WI.  Berry Bearings is the name.  Here's a link showing their WI sites.
