Wood Duck Boxes

Any of you guys build any nesting boxes for woodies?  If you happen to have any plans or approaches to that which you like, let me know.  When we bought the property we're living on now, the old silted in pond always had some woodies on it.  In the course of cleaning things up & renovating that waterhole, I ended up taking out a few old dead/hollow willows that I suspect they may have nested in.  Still have some decent trees along two sides, and am hoping to build up a couple of nesting boxes for the woodies to see if I can lure them back - love to see them on the pond.

We bought three kits last year from the website below.  They were simple to put together, but we have yet to put them out (early spring project).  I believe the guy does most of the work from his garage.

We built some 5 years ago using the ducks unlimited plans and they are still working. We used Red Cedar for ours. We use rough cut lumber and planed it ourselves more work but it cut the cost a bunch. I think each box cost 10.00 in material. It's a lot of fun to build them and then watch em work.

Thanks guys - I'll see if I can round up some cedar & give that a try with the DU plans.  Have had a devil of a time finding red cedar here aside from the 1/4" stuff they use for closet lining (what I use for those scratch box calls).  May have to resort to white cedar.  Think I'll build 2 and see if I can get any woodies to take up residence in the spring.
