Henry speaks again!
« on: August 05, 2016, 07:06:06 PM »
It's been a while, but I got a chance to take another woodchuck again with my Henry.  A little farther than the first two, by maybe a couple of yards.  Took the shot, and it looked like it dropped right there.  Two of the granddaughters are spending the night, so they were watching the woodchuck and said it got up and ran into the weeds.  We went out to look for it, and I couldn't find it, but one of my granddaughter said she could see something that was furry, as she peered through the underbrush close to the ground.  It was pretty thick so I grabbed a long tree branch and started parting the weeds. She was right, it was the woodchuck, who had traveled roughly 10 ft before expiring.

A woodchuck needs to be darn careful chucking wood at Louie's place - congrats ML!   (by the way, last weekend I saw the first groundhog here that I've seen in years.  He was waddling across the neighbor's yard about a quarter mile from here - don't think she'd have been too happy with me shooting it, although if it starts tearing up her garden or flowerbeds maybe I'll get an invitation!)

Yari, practice shooting at live game is way better than shooting paper.  I look at this as practice for shooting deer next fall.  Right now I'm using 200 gr RF bullets, which may be adequate for deer up to 75 yds.  Not sure about the fps.  Load I'm using was developed with a 16" barrel, and I'm shooting a 20" barrel.
