practice isn't just for shooting
« on: June 28, 2016, 09:20:22 PM »
my LOTW musky trip leaves next week. I did a test run w/ the new diawa lexa and st Croix IV 8" rod. I have run new musky reels for a few years. I figured all the small issues had been worked out. I was wrong again. when I set the drag, the super braid line just spun on the spoon. it didn't lock down. I brought it home took all the line off, put a mono base layer w/ electrical tape for good measure and put the super braid back on. problem solved. glad I didn't wait until I was there to test it

as dutch would say: practice practice practice- even w/ your fishing gear

Yep - good advice - have learned the hard way on more than one occasion that good quality stuff right out of the box doesn't always behave as planned.
One of God's greatest gifts to us is
the great outdoors - get out there
and enjoy it!

Good job...I always use a mono backing when I use braid line. It sure will eliminate problems down the road. Enjoy your trip and pictures please!

We back all of the reels for walleye on Lake Erie with mono also behind our Gamma Braid. Glad you got it all figured out up front before the trip. Nothing worse than spending precious fishing time fixing or repairing equipment. Good Luck
