A Fun Day On The Lake
« on: May 24, 2016, 10:17:45 PM »
Logan and I went to a nearby lake Sunday for some time together on the water.  We hunted the sandies and enjoyed the adventure for about 1-1/2 hours. We finally found them stacked up on the windy side of a main lake point. We were in our Jon boat and I don't  have electronics yet. So we were fishing blind. We were fishing too deep. Logan got a tangle I was helping him with and we almost drifted up on the bank right on the point. I got on the trolling motor to get us going back out and slung a rattle trap right up close to the bank and boom the first one hit. When I was reeling it in I told Logan to cast up there and boom he had one on too.  These fish were almost on the bank.  I trolled out a little ways and dropped anchor. We sat right there and caught fish steady for the next two hours.  We caught 40-50 but only kept 20.  We left them still biting.  But look at the size of these sand bass!   We had such a great time.  I've been trying to get Logan on a sand bass bite like this for a while.  We finally connected.

Cool!  Reminds me when I used to take the kids fishing for bluegills in their beds.  They made their beds in relatively shallow water and could locate them by sight.  Generally, the bigger fish bedded deeper.  You could easily catch your limit

Awesome Russcat.  Love the pictures.  I loved it when I lived in OK when the sand bass were running.

Those be some nice ones....although we in the United States of Ohio refer to them as White Bass...better eating than crappies...IMO ##$%#1115

Yeah, they look like what we'd call white bass as well.  They are good in the fryer, but I still would have to stack crappie above them on my list (maybe it's because the white bass I catch come out of the Mississippi River?)

Sandies=sand bass=white bass
One of the best fighting fish pound for pound there is.  They run in schools so when you find one you found many (usually).  Certain times of the year you can see schools of them on the surface in a frenzy feeding on shad.  They behave a lot like stripers just don't get as big.  Great fun for kids when you can find them.  I like to call it "LIVE ACTION!"

That's a great time on the water. White Bass are a blast to catch. I've gotten on them several time when they boil up to the surface on shad. Building some great memories there Russ...
