need help with staining antlers please?
« on: December 12, 2015, 09:06:45 PM »
the buck I killed last year I cut the head off and skinned it out, with the intent of boiling it. but got tied up with work and by the time I got to it. it was stinking so I never boiled it. so it got bleached by the sun. and I know some taxidermist use a stain to darken or return the color to antler. I was wondering if anyone here had done that and could tell me what stain to use. and the procedures I want it to look as natural as I can get it to.

Dustin,
Below is a link to few ways to do it.

There are more than one link if you look to the side bar when opening the first one.

I've never done it, but my advise is to start lighter than you think you want. with time, chances are it will darken. if it doesn't at least you can darken it later. if you start too dark, you don't have many options to reverse it

good luck
