Gutshot 2015 Hunting Journal
« on: October 10, 2015, 09:15:44 AM »
Well here's the beginning of the 2015 hunting season which started with the taking of a few groundhogs over the summer which were added to the groundhog contest. The PA archery season opened on Oct 3rd, however I didn't get to hunt until the 7th due to a long work weekend at camp which involved the installation of a new steel roof. After the work was completed and I had a day of rest, I hit the woods with my trusty HOYT on the 7th. After a 20 minute drive and a 35 minute walk to spot in the oaks that has seen much activity over the years on public land I established myself a small hide out and waited for the deer to show up. That took about 20 minutes for a doe and a yearling to show up with the munchies. As soon as the smaller of the two gave me the opportunity at 39 yards, I put grim reaper right through the boiler room and watched her scamper off about 40 yards or so where she expired in the ground pine. Now that I have some meat in the freezer, I will concentrate on Mr. Right with some bone on the head. Muzzleloader starts up on the 17th which is doe only in PA until the 24th, I still have another doe tag to fill which I hope to do with the TC inline.

Yari, here is the answer to your question on wearing orange - http://www.nxtbook.com/nxtbooks/pgc/pa_huntingdigest1516/#/66 see the section on overlapping archery and muzzleloader season. With over a million acres of public land to hunt we rarely even see other hunters outside of our own hunting party, it does happen but not often. Our party always carry radios also to keep track of who is where.

I wish WI would do that. i'm a little guilty when hunting my own land. I take the orange off. I don't see anyone anyway unless they are lost. I try to get away from all hunters

thx

Great job Gutshot!  Congrats on the doe.  That will make some very fine freezer fare.

Congrats Gut!!!

Our seasons overlap here as well.     Archery picks up again after gun season ends on Nov 30 but muzzleloading overlays it for a week in early Dec.   If bow hunting you can still wear camo, if hunting with a smoke pole you must follow the hunters orange rules.
