Got into some Crappie
« on: September 25, 2015, 11:18:58 PM »
The wife took the boys out to eat and shopping today after school. When I got home from work I learned I had the evening to myself.  So I hooked up the jon boat and went fishing. I've been wanting to do some crappie fishing but haven't had any free time.  I got into a nice school right off the bat. Most were 11-12 inches.  But check this one out.   I didn't have a scale but she measured 15-1/2" long.  Needless to say crappie is for dinner tomorrow night!

Nice!  Crappies make for good eating, I prefer them over bluegills.

Nice'n, Russ!  However, "ya'll.." need to call them SPECKS, like we do here in the south.  Sounds more appealing than CRAPPIE....think about it LOL.

nice fish. some of my favorite ice fishing trips were for jumbos like that one. the lake is now fished out because the paper advertised how good that lake was.

I'm no expert here, but I'm guessing there was some good eating going on there. That's a bruiser crappie  ^^&&$%GT

When I hooked him and was reeling him in I thought to myself, "this has to be a bass" because it pulled so much harder than the other crappie I had already caught.  Plus it was pulling some drag.  Then it came by the boat in that clear water and I was like, "whoa check this thing out!"   I've caught bigger ones but its been a long time.  This is probably a top fiver for me.

Nice crappie...Sometimes it's nice to get on the water by yourself and clear the mind and just enjoy the water. Looks like you had a wonderful evening!!!

Crappie is by far my favorite eating fish. Whether fried whole or filleted, I love 'em. If pack in dry ice, they should ship nicely.
