Out foxed by a skunk
« on: September 25, 2015, 02:41:10 PM »
I have been noticing a skunk mooching around our bird feeders at night...Sometimes as early as 8:45 pm when it was still light out. I have my lawn treated for grubs so it seems they like what the birds drop. There is an odor around my and a neighbors shed so he must live near by . Any how I have been using the medium sized Havahart bated with apple and peanut butter ,cat food and lastly sardines. So far to date I have caught five raccoons and one Feral cat (when I used cat food of course) The cat was by far the worst . I usually see the skunk on rainy evenings or shortly after. I wouldn't mind him so much but the faint but pronounced smell is bothersome. Back to the ole drawing board I guess.

That is one animal I don't want to see in my live trap.  Whenever I set up one up, I do so with fear and trepidation, as I know we have a few skunks in the area.  They have even come up on our side deck, looking for cat food, but we don't have outside cats at the present time.

My skunk finally got hit by a car a house away from mine...Of course he left no smell behind after getting hit...only when he was mooching around our bird feeders....But I still check out at night looking for more....

Yep, more than likely he was part of a larger family group.

You are probably right....I treat my lawn for grubs but my neighbors do not. Plus with our bird feeders and farm land and old old barn nearby...that doesn't help.
