Couple of interesting coyote pics
« on: September 01, 2015, 07:16:35 PM »
I've been meaning to post these pictures for a while.  I think they are all pretty cool.

1) "Salt & Pepper" is a normal coyote with a rarely seen black coyote.
2) "One in a Million" is a pic I got of the normal coyote holding a deer by the neck (subsequent pic had the black coyote circling said deer).  I wish I had put my camera on video!
3) "Double lung" is very interesting if you can tell what is happening.  The rear end on the coyote is facing the camera and the coyote's mouth is wide open on the right side trying to bite what just "stung him" in the right side (he is twisted 180 degrees).  That sting was compliments of a 55 grain from my 22-250.  He didn't get far!

South Carolina is claiming 50% mortality rate of fawns due to coyotes!!!

Those are some fantastic pictures Ben, thanks for posting them!  Have never seen a black yote - wonder if it's a bit of a cross-breed with a domestic dog?    How on earth did you get that yote to pose in front of your trail cam for "double lung"?  All three are excellent photos.  I just downloaded mine from here at the house - got a blurry nighttime picture of a yote about 80 yards behind the house at about 4:30 this morning - if I can get him to show up there in the daylight maybe I can get a photo like yours after I sting him.

Thanks for your kind response.  We were wondering the same about the black coyote if it was a cross or not.  The white stuff the coyote was standing in is rice bran I put out for the deer.  I made a trail 10 yards wide and 150 yards long through a thicket with my dozer.  I placed the rice bran there just to view deer, wildlife, etc.  The coyote just happened to be there one morning as I was walking through the kitchen.

Heading to KY tomorrow morning so I will not be able to respond for a week.  Will post more when I get back.

Great pics!  I've only seen one yote in my life and it was a solid black one.  I dispatched it with my .300 WSM from 182 yds.  I had no idea black yotes were rare.
Retired after 34 yrs. on Jacksonville (Fl.) Police Dept.  19 yrs. in patrol and last 15 yrs. in C.S.I.
Now I can hunt and go bass fishing anytime I want!  Started deer hunting in 2007 but, had many years as a teen hunting rabbits and squirrels.

I guess I should say they are fairly rare (depending on where you live, I guess).  This is the only one I have ever seen and I see tons of them.  Nice shooting by the way at 182 yards!

That's why they're rare Copnjax - you guys keep putting large caliber holes through them!  Live & let live I say.  (not really)

Great pictures...that yote is bigger than the deer. I wonder what that outcome was? I'm betting not good.... @--0--0127

The time stamp on this picture shows it six minutes later with the black yote circling.  Never found a body, but I'm willing to bet the little button didn't make it either.
