These WI Turkeys Think it's mid May Apparently!
« on: June 09, 2015, 09:48:45 AM »
I hunted Arkansas (last wk of April) and Kansas (2nd wk of May) this year - birds were fired up and I got it done in Kansas (see the Ultimate Outdoorsman post for details). Came home and was utterly exhausted, didn't see much throughout the days leading up to my time period so I decided to just eat the Wisconsin tags.

In the last 5 days I've seen 1/2 dozen Toms with hens strutting around like it was early season in the fields as I'm driving around.

Huge, beautiful mature Toms every one of them.  Apparently they've decided to extend their mating season this year!  Usually they're pretty much done by Memorial Day!

Makes me kick myself for not getting up at 3:30am to chase them buggers two weeks ago..... @--0--0129

Snooze, you lose!  There have been a few times when I didn't feel like getting up that early either, but usually I just say to myself, you can't shoot a turkey from your bed!

Yup looks like the first hatch has been lost because of the cold spring  , looks like the hens maybe trying for a second hatch . I have been seeing the same thing for the last two weeks around me .

Turkeys do what turkeys do! That includes not following the rules and in fact making their own rules and changing them at their whim. When are they going to start watching the DVD's and listening to the experts? Feathery know-it-alls! Yes, a lot to look forward to for next year!
