saw nothing today but 40's, no wind and no rain finally.  It was a beauty of a day in the woods, still overcast, but, nice.  No hunters in our area, the deer are laid up in this weather and its gonna take more than 2 guys to stir them up ;D.  the 2nd rut should be starting soon, a lot of sign but no bucks during the day yet,  I'll try again later this week, this is a busy time of year @--0--0118

another bluebird day, started out at 32 degrees not bad partly sunny and the 2nd rut is suppose to be starting now.  I think I missed the first one ;D  so I decided to go it alone, nobody else is hunting absolutely no one on the hill but me.  saw nothing from my stand except squirrels and woodpeckers but I decided after 3 hours to call it quits until someone else is around.  as I was leaving and going down the road just a short ways I spied 2 deer in a small brush lot next to our hunting, so I turned around and when I passed the lot again there was 3 in it and one was large.  I couldn't get a good look as I passed but went back and hiked up the hill to my sons stand which was above the deer and with a south wind it should have been right for them to feed into me.  Well after another hour  ,nothing showed up so they must have bedded down.  with one guy hunting, you can't sneak on them so I left.  better luck saturday @--0--0118

Since I got my nine pointer with the crossbow I have been passing up a few bucks including two decent eight and a six pointer. The other morn I was in one of my stands near my and the farmers lot line and at 730 three bucks bolted from his swamp and ran by through the hemlocks. There was a spiker ,six point and a shooter white racked eight. When I spoke with the farmer later he said his daughter was out hunting and may have pushed them by me.He also said that was the same group of bachelor bucks that he saw before the season.I found it hard to believe that they are back to their bachelor group if I had not seen it myself. I gave them an hour but no luck grunting them in.

Hunting again today with my partner, he missed a deer in the corn lot and saw 3 more.  I had almost a shot on a deer sneaking out of heavy brush but must have seen me or winded me and went back in before I could see what it actually was or get a good shot.  There still their and I plan on starting muzzleloading next time. I have to take a sleep study tonite so I may not make it out tomorrow and rifle ends Sunday.  Hopefully the 2nd rut will start for my muzzleloading Monday, it is not going on now, the weather has really stopped the 2nd rut I really don't remember when I could hunt in 50 degree weather, not wearing any gloves and warm as toast on December 11th in New York.  unusual year!

well I complained earlier on the high temps and took a picture from my stand of the woods minus snow by now.  About an hour later my partner missed a doe in the corn lot another long but doable shot.  Then I had a chance at them when they came by my son's stand but they wouldn't give me a good clean shot , they kept to the heavy wooded area, then at the end of our hunt day I missed a doe that was flying by me on a dead heat to somewhere, these scopes are hard to use when there that fast.
that ends my rifle season and the good thing is there are plenty of deer left at our spot and Monday I start muzzleloading.  Also we found a 6 point that the coyotes chewed on, my buddies got the skull & Horns.

I'll close out my hunting journal this year, I did go out for a few hours saturday muzzleloading, I saw nothing but took in my 2 ladder stands and brought them home.  I took my old .45 side lock and my partner kept saying it won't shoot.  ALL MORNING!   well I shot it and it worked fine.  I have decided to use it a little more in the muzzleloading season, my partner, wants me to use my CVA acurra which is an awesome modern muzzleloader but I get the itch to go old side lock quite often.  We did find the rest of the deer the coyotes were knawing on.  the skull was found 200 yards from the rest of the eaten body .  coyotes did a number on the deer.  I believe the deer must have been hit on the highway and the coyotes took care of it, I just can't see those coyotes taking down a healthy 6 point buck, good size.  I had a good year in my book, did something new with the crossbow and missed 2 bucks and missed a doe with the rifle streaking by me and saw much game this year and lots of game camera pictures.  I may be losing my hunting spot but I'll find another.  there are still 2 days left but I am completely tied up the next 2 days on family.. I am looking forward to 2016 and some Florida fishing and turkey hunting in May and trout in April.  I wish all my TH friends a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! @--0--0118
