Vehicle kills don't count...I asked... LOL

DH, I'm not one to criticize ones choice of weapon but in this case I think you really were overgunned.   --099-780 --099-780

Glad it didn't do any real damage and everyone is OK.

Wow !! Eye opening.  Often wondered how those huge red spots on road didn't take out the vehicle ( trucks included) from the impact.  Scarey pics.  Glad you're okay.

I have been keeping tally of my "friend's" deer/bumper encounters......his trucking company installed guards and steel for that very reason Dutch.  He did do about $1,000 damage when a 500 pound black bear decided to attack!

I hear bears and pigs are rough on trucks. the low center of gravity usually wins

Yes they are. That is why we have added what we call a "rock rake" to the bottom it's 4"s off the pavement. An animal can not go under until it is ground up small enough to do no damage. I know it sounds gruesome but it's much better to come to a controlled stop than endanger other people. My son hit a black bear in MT with minor damage (headlight bulb) to the truck major damage (lights out) for the bear. The rock rake for my truck is in and hopefully we can get it installed in the next couple of weeks. We have had two occasions where another rig has backed into these front end protectors and only damaged there trailers. They are really tough and heavy. They mount bolts to the frame and allows the guard to pivot forward and down when you need to tip the hood up to check oil and windshield fluid.

Glad you are safe and the truck is ok. I agree hitting the brakes and swerving to miss an animal is dangerous and could injury another motorist. You just got to take the hit.

Dutch Hunter,

Is there a website where we could check out the "rake" for saving trucks.

We saw 2 does and a buck on the side of I-40 headed west browsing.  Someone
must have planted a food plot there!!     %^$^

The company we get them from is Herd http://www.herd.com/products/ . The "rock rake" is actually called Super Road Train. They cost around 5000 but if you hit an animal without one the damage will be twice that. I see they do offer "cow plows" for pickups. There are a few other manufacturers. We are trying a new brand on a Freightliner we're putting into service. I can't remember the name right now made in SD.
