DPD posted this topic, http://www.talkhuntin.com/index.php?board=93.0 For those who may not know or recognize him, this is Fred Bear. I had the privilege and honor to be befriended by him at a very young age. He hand built my Whitetail Hunter and gave it to me as a gift seven years before he passed. It remains one of my most cherished possessions and memories. Thank you "Uncle Fred" your "little bow boy". He was truly a living legend.

I recognized the picture right away.  My first serious bow was a Bear.  Visited the Fred Bear Museum when it was in Grayling, MI, and went past the Fred Bear factory quite a few times while attending annual summer camp at Camp Grayling.

I still have my Whitetail Hunter hanging on the wall. I got several deer with it, but can't pull it anymore. Maybe one of my grankids will someday!!

First several bows were Bear bows.  Like many I still have them.

When Dad was stationed down at Ft Hood in Texas, he went to an indoor archery range to shoot one time, and Fred Bear happened to be there just hanging out & talking with people.  He spent a little bit of time shooting with Dad, and really impressed him, both with his demeanor and his shooting skills.  Would love to have met the man, or better still, had an opportunity to hunt with him.

Gutshot, I'm one of those older folks.  Still hunt with a Kodiak magnum and a Grizzly every year.  Not all the time, but take them out as weather permits.  Love the stick and string and still take deer with it,  if the shot is under 20 yards and I do my part. Dutch you do have a real gift there.  Never met the man but did get to the Grayling museum in the 70's.
