Viking1204's Hunting Journal

I'm getting a late start on this but so far there's not been much to talk about. I've made 3 trips to the hunting camp during the rifle season this year so far and seen nothing but little ones and other critters. To give you an idea, last weekend I hunted Thursday through Sunday and saw birds squirrels, a skunk, a really fat possum and one 60lb deer I'm guessing is a button buck since he wanders around alone and I've seen him a few times now.

I'll be leaving for my next trip to the hunting camp about noon today and hunting through Monday, I'm going to be the only one at camp this time so I'm hoping without others hunting I'll have some better luck. When I'm there alone I try to be so quiet that they don't even know I've arrived at camp! Good luck to everyone that is still out there hunting, I'll be at until they close the season Feb. 10th!

Good luck, Viking, and be careful out there, especially if you're gonna be alone.

Back safely, passed on one average size doe with a fawn that I swear still had spots. They were alone so didn't want to take mama and leave the little one all by their self, still a lot of season left. That was it for deer, no shortage of turkeys though, saw 13 Hens in one field and 4 Toms in another from the same stand! Taking the Christmas and New Years weekends off to spend some time with family and friends and then back into the woods Jan 10th weekend and every weekend but one until the season ends after that!

Well no luck this weekend, nothing but little deer and turkeys AGAIN! Turkeys every where like they know it's not turkey season and just strut through the field right in front of you! Back at it again this weekend for 4 days with Anthony since he's out of school for 4 days!

Well struck out again this weekend, it was oddly quiet of most animals. Hunted Thursday night through Monday morning and vaguely saw one deer Thursday night through the fog but couldn't make a shot due to limited visibility. I will be back up Jan. 30 through Feb. 8th for my last hunt of the season and hopefully by then the rut will have kicked in, really no signs of it yet where I'm hunting in Conecuh county.

I hope you're right partner! Good news is the start of my hunt is going to have some cold weather so hopefully that will get them moving!
