is there an early muzzleloader season in IA? I know there is an early youth season. maybe this was a governor's tag?

Yes there is one, its for residents only and they only give out 7500 tags statewide I believe.  Starts the second or third weekend in october and runs through the following one.

if we didn't have aging parent, I would persuade my wife to move that way. she wants to stay w/I an hour just in case they need us. funny thing is neither one of our siblings are w/I 1000 miles. sometimes doing the right thing gets in the way

I know. it's hard to justify sometimes. 4 other kids left and moved 1000 miles away. it's tough to have a conscience
