Shaved a doe....
« on: October 07, 2014, 12:11:34 PM »
Well Sunday I went out  and had a great hunt though I forgot my range finder and was sitting in a stand I had not used in 3 years...just put a new ladder at it this summer...any how had 2 nice doe and a couple of fawns show up ...the one doe took for ever to get into the lane way andI aimed right at the tip of her elbow heart side...I knew she'd tip and pivot...and that I thought it was between 25-30yrds. She was more like a bit over 35 I think..I'll range it some other sit...I watched the illuminock heading right for her heart and she started to tip to the side, when all of a sudden it stuck in the ground under her heart. She must have stepped on the nock when she ran for it got turned off... they all took off away from me...one fawn came my way....continued to sit hoping they return  then the winds shifted and 4 different groups winded me and I drew on another doe but she went through the lane too fast to get a shot...at 6pm I climbed down and half way down the ladder(yes I know...I was told no trees  @--0--0116) my bow on the ground the doe came back to feed...think trying to find the fawn too... I got down unseen hid behind a tree and rustled the leafs ...she bolted...kicked up several more deer on the way out...one of those fawns was pure blonde...I have never seen a blonde deer before it was really pretty....Oh any ways I went and got the arrow nothing on it but a little mud and several light brown hairs...the arrow must have managed to drop down along her side or just missed the white belly fur catching the brown before it hit the ground/...I never saw any marks on her.

Things like this happen eventually if you play this game long enough.  Could have been worse.    You'll get another shot at this one.

sounds like you have more than a handful of deer around. I don't see that many deer in a month.

be careful. your knee goes out on the way up or down a tree and it won't be funny. I've had 'trick knees' on and off for 30 years. I won't climb if they are acting up

good luck

I know guys @--0--0116 thanks...I had a problem with the big blind and have avoided using it...but I donned gloves and a face mask an went down with the car vac.  I had mice manage to figure out how to get to the deck chair cushion I hung from the ceiling and they made a nest...well when I discovered it...no mask I had mice feces and stuffing flying every where...freaked me out!!!!!....So I just got time to go down and clean things up....mice left when the pad left 3 yrs I was mouse free...just the occasional raccoon break in....now I'll keep a supply of mouse poison in it :2)...winds have been so bad here and swirling the deer are all on high alert...The ground blinds have been a bit problematic.   I am hooked up when I have gone up and down...because I have so many stands I made a system I attach to my HSS back strap...then I hook it on couple rungs above me, climb and reattach. if the knee where to give out  I wouldn't leave ladder.

4blade...No that was the first time I saw it...now there was a lighter colored fawn in the feild a month ago but I don't think it's the same one....it was the color of a Golden retriever...and such a noticeable contrast to the other reddish brown fawn and greyish brown does. she sorta looked like the one in the link...but has a much smoother prettier coat than that one
