more photos...2012 bucks
« on: February 26, 2014, 06:58:52 PM »
Just going thru photos while the snow melts. These are the two ten points I shot last year in shotgun season. The bigger one was 225 lbs. that I shot behind my house and had the head mounted. The smaller one I shot the very next night at my brother in laws.He weighed 200 lbs. Someone had dogs running in the distance and they eventually came to our area and I watched a doe run by with a hound on her.About fifteen minutes after they were out of hearing range the buck came trotting along on the exact same trail about a hundred yards out. I managed to get him to stop and dropped him in his tracks. The best I can figure is the dog split up the buck and doe and he was trying to find her again.....the rut was on.

Don't like to see dogs running deer.  Most of the time, they do it just for fun.  I think it's legal in Michigan to shoot a dog when it's spotted actively chasing deer.

they haven,t banned them everywhere here yet....we are behind the times that way in canada. The dogs can mess up a hunt for those of us that like to just still hunt as they cover a lot of ground and don,t worry about whos property they are on.
For that hunt I was just lucky that buck wanted to find that doe because he was the only deer any of us saw after the dog went thru. Luckily there are only a few guys around that still use them locally.
