First shotgun deer
« on: November 18, 2013, 07:57:03 PM »
My son, Andrew, has never shot a deer with a shotgun before today. He has used every legal weapon allowed in Indiana now but the handgun which we are going to work on next year.

We got on stand at 4:00p.m. and had a butten buck walk out and I told him he could not take the shot. He was a little disappointed, but then at 5:10pm we seen several deer coming out of the swamp.

Long story short, we had five any where from 50yds to 75 yds from us and he was waiting for the biggest doe to give him the shot he wanted.

Before the big doe gave him the shot we heard one of them start to blow and I told him to take the one in the open, at 75yds., and he did. After he shot that one the big doe ran out in the open and I got his shotgun reloaded, we use a single shot H&R heavy barrel, while she stood around to figure out what was going on.

She stood at 50yds too long because once I got the shotgun reloaded Andrew did not waste any time getting on her and he said "I'm on it!" I said take her and BOOM.

Both deer ran 40yds. max and I was amazed to find he took the hearts out of both of them. However I am getting to old for this much work in one night. LOL

Congrats to Andrew!  Good shooting, but you're making Dad look bad.

Way to go Andrew, another good night in the deer stand. You should have enough jerky for a long time now. Good job day, you are doing it right.
