Late Season Turkey Hunting
« on: August 09, 2013, 03:14:08 PM »
Stopped at a farmer's market last Saturday morning, chatting up one of the local farmers and finally he offered his farm for late season turkey hunting.  They hunt it hard for deer but once the gun season here in WI is done I can go and smoke as many turkeys as I can get tags for since he doesn't hunt them.

I've never taken a fall turkey - I'm super excited!!!

in NY Fall turkey hunting is more bushwhacking then actually strut and call ins...though hen call will work on the young ones when you split them up...Fall is fun and gets you a chance to see where Deer are.   Gobblers usually hang together and the Hens and Poults hang together...sometimes we get flocks of over a hundred birds.   @--0--0101     try bowhunting for turks (I don't do it) but people say its challenging and fun @--0--0118

Cool!  I got my first turkey in a fall hunt.  It was a jake, but it ate good!  Wish you the best!

Good luck, Carrie!!  I may try it again this fall, since my spring season went so well.   :P

Great news about the hunting land! Good luck with it (and them turkey birds!). I don't hunt fall turkeys here as it edges real close with the rut around here and I bowhunt so that isn't a good combo. Hope you do well and keep us posted!
