How do you use food plots?
« on: June 05, 2013, 09:13:55 AM »
I was just wondering how everyone use's there food plot's?

I use my for two main reason's,  to keep them nice and healthy. (bigger's better) and to keep them in the general area.
I will hunt over them with kids and late season but I prefer to be in the woods in the area.
I also love the reward of giving back to the wildlife.

To be honest the main reason any plots were started on our place was because I needed to smooth out the plow furls left by the farmer who owned the land before us....he did one last plowing and then let the land go back to forrest...save a little area his sons bush hogged...my kidney's could not take it any more...mowing was horrid...I figured might as well make some use of it while I'm working it......now I like the pics and the increas in critter activity..Hey the huntings nothing to sneeze at either

I'm with PJ, you need a all of the above option. I chose hunting, but to keep wildlife around to view is also a big part

All for me. I don't have enough land to do much for animal health, so it's mostly for hunting and enjoyment. ##$%#116

Animal health and to keep the deer on the property as well.  It's illegal in Minnesota to hunt over a food plot

Very good question snort.  I was wanting to answer all the above but since the plots are not at our place I didn't think I could put down other.  If they were at our place it would definitely be all of the above.  I think I'm split between animal health and hunting over.  I enjoy seeing them come to them and feeling comfortable more than anything.  Hopefully I will be able to plant beans this weekend.  The corn is doing well.  Sprayed 1 1/2 weeks ago with glyphosate.  Weeds are losing that battle right now.  Hopefully the rain holds off a little so I can get those in.

All of them.  I make sure I plant at least one that I can see from the house so I can sit on the porch and just watch.....

Try to make it one that all the deer will use all the year round.
