I'm so glad....
« on: May 14, 2013, 06:54:18 AM »
I wasn't lulled into a false sense of security....The weather had been so very warm and the soil temps were up...farmers were planting corn near us....then the cold temps hit and we had a freeze last night and low thirties the last several nights...All I'm planting is power plant and corn for now...and I held off...thinking first week of June to  be safe....Snowed here on and off everyday  since Friday.... :-\

Your seeds will be fine. They are still in the ground and won't be hurt. They will lay dormant and when it warms again the snow water will help boost your seeds. No Worries.

Remember the term Frost Seeding? Many people use the winter freeze and thaw to over seed their pastures and hay feeds. It works quit well.

Those seeds are hard to fool, put them in a good seed bed and they will do the rest.

Oh I know what your saying and the clover I frost seeded earlier and then we had no precip. for 3 weeks...has loved this cold wet weather...but I won't risk it with the power plant having soy beans sunflowers and milo...it takes a long time for the soils to warm after a heavy freeze in these hills....I'll wait for the warm up...the critters have lot's of food right now with the clover plots and the WR are growing like mad....not to mention all the elderberry and bramble leafs they are gobbling up....

That sounds like North Texas weather in March.  That sure is hard on blooming trees, plants, and grass trying to come in.
