prep time
« on: April 05, 2013, 09:53:55 PM »
heading down to my buddies place in the AM to look it over for turkey season. opens 4/10, but may not get out until weekend. plan on putting up a blind. supposed to be rain mix all week. it would be nice to sit dry. plan to bring chair, decoys and blind so i don't need to set it up if it's raining. if not, it's run and gun like normal. the way it's going i may be wearing snow camo unless it starts melting. it's snowing right now.

i can't wait to get the thunder chickens worked up

Sounds like a plan to me. Good luck with the turkeys and with warmer weather.

I remember the first time I went turkey hunting.  It snowed a day or so before the opener, and we were dressing up as if we were going deer hunting in November!   Fortunately, the weather warmed up a day or so later, but the turkeys came up winners that season, while we had to eat tag soup.

the forcast is for rain the next 3 days. the opener is wednesday with high winds and rain. perfect turkey weather???????????

it's tough walking out there. snow is pretty deep and where it started to melt, it's ice. didn't hear any gobbling. it's not going to be good for a run and gun method. the snow is real noisy. no way to get close w/o scaring them. might be stuck in the blind?

will let you know how it goes. almost forgot. looked for horns for 4 hours. nothing. too much snow

Yari I don't envy you having to hunt this week. Crappy weather right on through next Thurs. I'm glad I don't start until the 24th.

Feel sorry for you Yari. It is hard to hunt under the best conditions, let alone snow or rain. I hate to hunt in the wind too!! @--0--0101

Sounds like a good plan.  It helps that turkey don't seem to care about something new like a blind showing up like deer do!!!!
