Weekend Fishing with Kids and Friends
« on: February 04, 2013, 09:15:43 AM »
Me and my buddies Dave and Garrett took our boys on a guided Striper fishing trip on Lake Texoma yesterday. The bite was a little slow but we managed to catch 25 fish total. Luckily Logan caught a nice one in the first hour or so. That kept him interested the entire time. We fished a total of 6 hours and had an absolute great time on the water. It was a beautiful calm day. Logan caught the big one. You should have heard him smack talking us grown ups.

That was the best $200 I've ever spent.

That looked like such a fun trip. That smile on Logan's face tells the story. Those striper's are a blast to catch. Congrats on building some great memories!!!

Looks like it was an awesome day russ, slow or not! LOL....I got my Jade in here to show her the pics...she read about the smack talk, LOL...she ain't so bad at it herself. Thought we were going to have to install a garage door in place of our front door when she caught her big bass last yr! Now she is chomping at the bit to get bit! Can't wait for the weather to give us a break round here so we can get out there and get after em! Thanks for sharing the pics brother.

I remember Jade catching that big bass. Isnt it great to see them get excited like we do?

It was 31 when we left the dock but the water was like glass. We all came prepared and had plenty of layers. We were down to a light jacket by 11:00 or so. I've never retained a guide before. It was nice. He knew the lake and took pretty good care of us.  His kid skills were a little questionable. He didn't show much restraint with the language. And After he got short with Logan the 3rd or 4th time I put him in his place pretty sternly he straightened up. But it really didn't take away from the day. Everyone had a very enjoyable day. Even more so after I Told him he was an _SS. Lol

Nice to get into a bunch of strippers, we use to get into them on Toledo Bend. Glad Logan got to catch the big one, you won't have to ask twice if he wants to go again!

I love to eat Striper. You're right. You have to cut the red meat out. The larger the fish the more red meat you have to deal with. But it's nothing a little time with a good knife won't handle. The smaller ones are actually better eating if you fry fillets. The large fillets have a much firmer texture than catfish. I like to take a large fillet and grill it. I'll put foil down on the grill so it cooks nice and slow. Spray the foil with Pam. Then as it cooks I'll glaze it several times with a garlic butter sauce. It's kinda like a super tender fish steak when it's done. Makes my mouth water thinking about it!
