After a week of mid 80 temps and southerly winds 20-30 a nice cool front is finally here. I sure wish I could hunt tomorrow but I'll have to wait until Saturday morning. I haven't checked my cams in 2 weeks. I'm thinking with all the acorns there won't be much action at the feeders. But maybe I'll be able to tell if the bucks have split up yet. I'm thinking the 30 day action should be starting. I'm planning on spending a lot of time out there over the next 2-3 weeks. I'll update the rut activity as we go. Good luck everyone. It's time to get it on!

Thanks possum. We wait all off season for this time of year. It's here and I have a stand about 20' up in a tree calling my name!

Good luck, Russ!    The cool should have them moving some, at least.    No signs of rutting activity around here yet, but Halloween is a week away.    Things should be picking up by then.

Saw 11 total this morning. Had 7 within bow range. Didn't shoot.  With the good movement I decided to sit it out and wait to see what might show up.   No sign of any funny business yet.

I think I'll pick up the boys from school and head to the lease today for an evening sit. I think we will sit back from a distance and observe from under a cedar tree.  There is no way I could get a bow shot off with these two with me.  At first glance of funny business I'll be taking time off and hitting the woods. I have a feeling it's starting. 2nd full moon after the fall equinox supposedly kicks things off. Its here.

Had a good hunt this morning. I got in the stand a good 30 minutes before first light. Before I climbed in I threw out a few handfulls of corn and hung my scent drag in a tree. Shortly after light I had 8-9 doe's In Bow range all at once.  They were calm and hungry and hung around all under my stand eating acorns and corn for a good 20 minutes. I passed on taking a shot hoping a buck would come out. I really wanted to watch their behavior to see if any rutting behavior had started. My plan worked. A 3 POINT followed my scent trail in and went doe to doe trying to find his new girl friend. None of them appeared to be hot or even remotely interested. One of them tagged him on the nose and got her point across. They all filtered into the brush and he went on his way.

I didn't see anything this evening. I had cows around my stand the entire time.

I haven't seen any signs of funny business yet around here. This warm weather sure isn't helping. Mid 80's just isn't deer hunting or rutting weather IMO.  Surely some cooler weather will get things going soon.

Storms are rolling in tonight and should be done around 6:00 am. I'll be back in the stand at daylight in the morning.

Nov: 9. I hunted in the am. Just after daybreak a nice buck came through. He didn't show any signs of fatigue like he'd been chasing. A few minutes After the feeder went off and scared him off a group of 4 doe's came by. They went tree to tree eating acorns. No bucks pestered them and they appeared calm.
Nov:11. Hunted in the pm. Saw a young 4 pt. He cruised by with his mouth open and appeared a little fatigued. This is the first sign I've seen so far. Northern comes in tonight. This may kick things off. I can't hunt again until Thursday so they'll have to wait on me.

I get a call from my dad today. He met the landowner (kirk) at the OK property today. Kirk told him he watched a 180 class 14 pointer this morning from his truck. This buck was under my bow stand for over 20 minutes courting a doe and fending off a little 6 point.  He said hs was old huge and all swollen up in the neck.  And I can't hunt until Friday.  It's on like neck bone this weekend!

Dang Partner I wouldn't be able to sleep...
I will be off Friday Muzzleloader hunting before Saturday opening Firearm season.
I hope you can get a crack at him before Kirk does.. Sounds like Kirk is mapping him out hard also...

Kirk isn't into hunting. He carries his rifle in case he sees a yote or a hog. But he is leaving all the deer to us. He told dad to tell me when I kill him he wants his ring back! Lol
