With no velvet. I've seen 5 bucks in the fields at dusk with no velvet but this is the first pic. Again not a very thrifty looking coat. I hope it's bugs and not mange, we don't need that again. Looking back at my journals this seems to be common after an extremely mild winter with not much for snowfall.

wouldn't worry about the coat dutch.  Looks like he is just starting to get his fall and winter coat.  Hardly see any with a full red coat down here now.  All still have velvet though.

loosing there velvet 1-2 weeks early? i always like them to grow as long as they can. i'll have to look and see whats going on w/ my cams up north.

Seeing some deer here in Maryland with the same looking coat. I was hoping they were just changing coats for the winter!

The deer by my place have started loosing their velvet as well. Does seem a little early.  I think the lack of rain is a big reason.  Leaves have started falling here and that is about 3-4 weeks early as well.
