Doe at 20 yards and no shot

Here's a video clip I was able to grab while out hunting.  It's of a friend (Lung Cutter!) and I out still-hunting one afternoon and happened upon a doe on our drive back to the camp.  It's amazing she just stood there watching us (even with me flailing my head around like an idiot!) with all the movement/noise... but she just wouldn't give up the shot.

You can check it out on YouTube --> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJeUw4MU3z0

(I'm the one in the mask filming.)

I can't believe it... You had a clear neck shot and a quartering to shot as well.  All joking aside you were a good boy.  Thank you.

You know, at first I thought someone from the camp was messing with us and put out a decoy!

I was the first to pull up to her and stop.  She just stood there -- motionless -- for like a minute.  Enough time for me to reach into my pocket, pull out my still cam and take 3 pics.  I thought she'd have fled by then, but she didn't, so I put the still camera away and got out the video just as Lung Cutter was stopping behind me (he actually used me as cover).  It seemed like forever, but I bet she stood there for a good 3 minutes.

Kudos goes to Lung Cutter as he was the one holding the bow.  I'm sure it was tough to refrain, but we talked about it after and agreed that it was the best thing to do.  He did try to get her to stop just as she was turning to flee (listen to the video and you'll hear it), but it just wasn't meant to be.  She was a good eating size, but nothing to brag about, for sure -- but we had the film rolling so it would have been a nice harvest.  Oh well, it was still an awesome experience... and she'll be there for someone next year!

Some of the guys back at camp said "I'd have taken that shot" after seeing the video... I'm glad the guy that was teaching me had better morals!

Great footage and judgement!

What is the background noise?  Almost sounds like a tractor.

How do you move a post?  Would like to move my footage from 'Videos & Knee Slappers' to this section.

What is the background noise?  Almost sounds like a tractor.

That would be my Polaris!  :)  Like I said, I drove up on this doe on my way back to the camp... I stopped, she didn't move so I thought the best bet would be to change nothing (ie. leave the bike running).  I thought, "If I turn the bike off, will THAT spook her?".  And, what works one time, for one deer, may not work at all the next... it just happened to work for us... this time.

As you can see, her curiosity almost got the best of her.  The bike running, me flailing my head around, LC walking up beside me with no mask... jeez, what else could be wrong?   --099-780
