Well, I was able to put in a short morning hunt with the muzzleloader before work this morning.  Felt GREAT to be out in the woods again...haven't been out since I got my buck with shotgun on 11/19!  Was a beautiful morning with scattered snow flakes, temps about 30 with about 10 MPH breeze out of the SW.  Passed on a small forkhorn at about 55 yds ... trying to wait for a big boy! After work tomorrow I have 4 days off to concentrate with the muzzleloader - Wish we had some snow in the forecast for those days but we'll see how it goes anyhow!

Sounds like you're having a great season Jala.  Good luck getting that big boy with the smokepole!

12/13...light SW breeze, about 8 MPH with temps starting out in the low 30's...warming up to low 40's...Beautiful morning for my first day of 4 off work in a row for the muzzleloader! Pulled an all day sit...Had 1 deer walk by me in the dark at about 6:50...could just make out its shape as it walked by me at about 20 yds...good way to start the day!  The cool thing is that it ended up walking right by my trail cam so I'll see if it was one of the big boys when I pull the card tomorrow.  Then at about 8:50 a group of 6 doe walked by...passed on them hoping for a buck with the muzzleloader!  Then a group of 4 doe came by at about 9:45...they came from where the 6 headed, so they might have been from that first group...not sure.  Alll 4 doe ended up bedding down in front of me scattered about between 40 and 50 yds until about 11:55....pretty cool!  After they got up and walked away that was all I saw the rest of the day.  Planning another all day sit with the smoke pole again tomorrow! Wish it was colder and snowy but still great to be out there!  Good luck all!
Here's a picture of the one bedded closest to me...also you could make out the body of one of the other does to the right.

Well 12/14 was a bust, a little breezy out of the SW...All day sit not a single deer sighted,
12/15 was better...A little breezier out of the ESE but temps a little cooler and I planned another all day sit.  The day started off with promising action about 7:30 with deer running back and forth in the woods about 100 - 120yds in front of me...Saw 6 deer running back and forth but couldn't make out what they all were...I'm assuming at least one was a buck chasing does.  One of the deer, a doe broke off the bunch walking down some pines and into my woods to walk by me at less than 10 yds.  Let her go hoping a buck would follow - No Luck.  Watched her for about 4 minutes until she eventually got downwind of me and ran off.  Throughout the day I ended up seeing 14 deer total, passing up shots at 7 doe throughout the day at less than 25 yds.  Then, at the end of the day while watching some turkeys fly up to roost, before climbing down out of the stand, I heard some deer moving through but it was getting too dark to see them...so don't know how many or what they were.  Funny how the same stand can produce 0 sightings one day and the next day be so active.  Planning another all day sit tomorrow.  That'll make 4 all day sits in a row...We'll see how it goes.  Trying to wait for a buck with the muzzleloader but may settle on a doe tomorrow as I've never gotten a deer with the muzzleloader yet and tomorrow should be my last day to hunt.  Good Luck all...Hunt Safe and Hard!

12/16 Was a rough one ...Gusty winds out of the SE 15 - 20 MPH but seemed like they were swirling and switching directions all day with scattered rain showers and warm temps to boot...Could have really gone for some cold weather and snow minus the winds, but at least the rain cleared out by 11:00.  Stuck it out all day starting in the ladder behind the pond until 1:00 and only saw three doe walking by the pond at about 8:00...Passed on them at about 65 yds...Just couldn't bring myself to drop the hammer on one of the doe with my 8Pt already in the freezer...so waiting on a buck still.  Switched to another stand until dark and didn't see anything more.  Hoping to switch hours at work Tuesday for a quick morning hunt before work on the last day of the muzzleloader season.  We'll see if that's a go!  Good Luck all - Hunt Safe and Hard!

12/18 Did manage to get some time off work for the last day of muzzleloader and ended up doing an evening hunt hoping the rain would stop before I got out of work.  It didn't but I still managed to get out and in my stand by 1:00.  Rain, breezy out of the WNW and temps in the upper 30's near 40.  Sat till dark and didn't see a thing except for one squirrel.  At least the rain stopped by about 3:50 but no deer.

Finally had a chance to tally up my "Sightings Log" for the 2012 Deer Hunting Season - Totaling 103 deer sightings from stand ...
72 Does / 24 Bucks / 7 Unknown
69 during Bow Season - 47 Does / 20 Bucks / 2 Unknown
  5 during Gun Season - 3 Does / 2 Bucks
29 during Muzzle Loader Season - 22 Does / 2 Bucks / 5 Unknown

I would have loved some colder weather and some snow this year but still had a wonderful season with a lot of close encounters and passing up shots at numerous small to medium sized bucks and many does.  Three of the buck sightings during bow season were mature shooter bucks that just wouldn't come in close enough for a shot and had some close encounters with a few almost shooters.  Gun season only consisted of hunting 2.5 days, until dropping the hammer on a small 8 pointer -  just reached that point in the season where I couldn't pass up another shot again...He came in hot on a doe and offered a super close shot.  I didn't get out after I shot my 8 pointer waiting to get back out after a buck during muzzleloader season, hoping to set my sights on one of the big boys.  Season went by way too fast - Already counting the days down till next season.  Now time to smoke some bunnies and grouse - Come on snow!
