Here's another update.  I cut everything to 4 inches Saturday to cut the onions and grass.  None of the clover is that tall otherwise I like to cut between 6 and 8 inches.  We've had very little rain so not much of the clover seed I put out has germinated.

This pic matches up with the second pic in my reply on April 27th.  It's coming along nicely, but this plot holds moisture better than most of the others.

This pic is from the same plot as the bottom pic in the April 15th reply.  It's getting there but still a lot of open spots.  It is on a slight slope so it doesn't hold any moisture.

In this spot I broadcast a wildlife blend from the local NRCS office which contains sorghum and other seeds more geared toward birds.  It's a small 1/10 acre spot along the side of my clover.  Hard to tell what is weeds and what was planted.

This pic shows a spot where the grass is coming in strong.  I hope to get up there this weekend and hit it with Clethodim to put an end to it.  That's if the weather cooperates and I find that Clethodim/crop oil won't damage recently germinated clover.

Can I use Arrest now, late May early June?  The grass is waist deep and I'm not sure if I should spray it, moy it or both.  The deer appear to be bedding in it, should I wait till August and bush hog and then replant?????  Dilema....

Typically you can spray any time your target is actively growing.  I would not spray it while it was waist deep though.  I would mow it, give it a couple of weeks to send up new growth, then spray.

Change of plans.  We had temps in the mid 90s all weekend and have not had rain in weeks, so my clover is already stressed.  The crop oil in the mix would have stressed it even further, possibly to the point of killing it if we don't get rain soon.  I'll be watching the weather hoping to find a good opportunity to spray sometime before fall.

The weather has been much nicer as of late and we've had some rain, so I took off work yesterday afternoon and sprayed the plots with Clethodim.  I've read that it can take 3 to 4 weeks for it to completely kill the grass so I'll be keeping an eye on it and hopefully posting some periodic updates.  Here are some shots from "spray day".  It's amazing how much grass can come back after nuking everything a couple of months ago.

In this plot I broadcasted "wild bird seed" from the local NRCS office on the right side of the pic.  It contained sorghum which I think is what the tall stuff is.  Time will tell.

Ragweed.  There was a decent buck feeding in this when I walked up.  He was much less happy to see me as I was him.

Grass coming on strong.

And more grass.

While I was there I also decided to start a war on multiflora rose.  I mixed a strong dose of Crossbow and crop oil in my backpack sprayer and misted plants until I ran out of spray.  It will be interesting to see the results.

Update time again.  I mowed yesterday because ragweed was coming on strong and I didn't want it taking over.

Ragweed

Clover on left, NRCS wildlife blend on right

The grass I sprayed is toast

Looks like I'm winning the war with multiflora rose

It was a hot dusty mess.  This drought we're in has just about killed all my clover.  I can live with that though.  I feel for the farmers around here.

multiflora rose is hard to kill and keep down. As for ragweed, even a little is to much as far as I am concerned

This is the first time I've sprayed multiflora rose so it's new for me, but I hope the concoction I sprayed it with does the job with one application.  As for ragweed, deer do browse it, but when it's as thick as it is on my place then you run the chance of it outcompeting your clover.  The deer can't keep up with it.
