They both work well. I was written up in Buckmasters 12 or so years back about a Big Tom I got in Missouri. It took a month to get him in a big open pasture  as he always seemed to be on the other side of the field I was on, until the very last day of the season!

Now, my hunting here is all woods and I have been fortunate every year. Last year was wild, I got 2 Toms over the spring season!

I like to hunt the woods in spring time....try to get close to the roosting area and wait for them to wake up and try to call the gobbler in...sometimes it works and sometimes he is busy with the real thing.....in the fall I like the fields with decoys....usually can call them in at times.....other times they don't want to know nobody ;D

I've taken birds in both. Most of my hunting is in the woods but I like hunting those fields in fowl weather!

I have killed both, but woods turkeys are a little easier to kill than field turkeys IMO because field turkets usually have the same pattern, fly down in the field and strut and peck around all day, then do it again the next.... field turkeys are very frustrating to me...
Hunting is a way of life: Love it, Teach it, Live it. But most of all.... RESPECT IT and pass it on!

I agree it seems I am always set up on the wrong side of the field.
