Turkey Season - Bummed.......UPDATED
« on: March 26, 2012, 04:55:26 PM »
Been so pumped up for turkey season, saw my first strutters of the spring last week, and been practicing with my calls to the point my wife's gonna move me outside; I'm ready ... Waiting hard for May 1st UNTIL today. I've also been nursing a bum shoulder and got the MRI results today,,,Surgery scheduled for April 13...followed by 6 weeks straight in a sling and then rehab!  @--0--0126  And of course it's my right shoulder so probably only be able to hit the woods with calls and maybe a camera.  So, I'll be living vicariously through all of your turkey stories and pics!  So BUMMED!

What Possum said.

Shooting a shotgun left handed when you are right handed is not as difficult as you might think.

That sounds like a blown rotator cuff..and take my word for it shooting off hand will not be an option...any sharp movement of the upper part of your body will feel it..I know I tried...about 4 weeks after the surgery...arm and shoulder felt real good figured I would give it a go..I shoot either hand so that was not a problem...tried the .410...felt like someone hit me with a sledge hammer in my right shoulder...sorry for the lose of your season, but in most cases postponing the surgery would only escabate the problem...

Thanks for all the good wishes everyone!
TT, I fear that you're right on with not being able to shoot at all!  At this point doctor's thinking not actually the rotator cuff but a torn labram (where the bicep tendon connects to the shoulder) and a tear along the shoulder seam (unsure of medical term).  I'm not thinking I'm going to be able to shoot at all but there's no way I'm missing the season altogether.  I'm planning on getting out there to call for my cousin or out there by myself armed with a camera instead - BUT still BUMMED...Just isn't the same not being out there with my 11-87!
DPD, Hope your ablasion goes well!
Good Luck all and keep the stories and pics coming!

Recovering from surgery on 4/13...lots of pain but doing good. Trying to manage doing things as a one handed southpaw is a challenge but getting by. Labrum actually turned out to be more than 75% torn. Turned out to be no tear on the bicep tendon but he did find a tear in the rotator cuff he wasn't expecting when he got in there....hopefully I'll get a chance towards the end of NY's season with shooting sticks off left shoulder. Keep them turkey stories and pics coming...Good Luck & be safe out there!

Glad your on the mend...sorry for the troubles...so here's some encouragement...years ago I had a bad accident...3 days in hospital...steel plate holding my leg bone together...screws in my ankle and told if I put any weight on casted leg /foot...I could end up loosing my foot altogether...a few weeks later May one rolled around and I had spent three days crying...until Mr B came through and helped wrap leg in blk plastic bag and drive me to a ground blind...crutches and crawling got me in blind and he set up leg...handed me gun and cellphone..to call when i'd had enough...10am was that time @--0--0137...no turkey but did call in a fox and trespasser
By Oct 15th archery ...I was still in a walking cast...and could not climb any ladders...weight was too much...so Mr B. bought me a climber ...my first....I was able to hunt all season  and gun season...taking a 6pt buck with bow and a doe with gun

Point....Being very careful...you won't have to loose your season...and may give you a good excuse to buy new equipment....
