Another Season in the Books
« on: May 30, 2011, 02:50:35 PM »
Tomorrow is the last day for the PA season, and what an exciting season that it was. We got on the birds every day out, and had the opportunity to miss one. That's life in the turkey woods. This morning was a 4 AM wake up, grabbed a cup of coffee, some toast and out the door. It was a beautiful ride up over the mountain, the deer were everywhere feeding early. Got set up after a 30 minute hike and just before daylight, I was ready. The crows got fire up and I could hear a gobbler way off in the distance on the next ridge, and that was the only bird I heard this morning. However at about 8 am was when the fun really started. I deciced to move and on my journey across the ridge I caught so movement, so I froze and began to pan the area for a big tom. To my surprise it was a sow and two cubs. I shoulderd the shotgun and broke out the camera. The grass was about waste tall and the cubs were very hard to get pictures of, but mamma bear didn't have a problem seeing over the grass, especially when she deciced to stand up to check me out.

I hope you're not planning on going to the same spot.  Seeing a mama bear with cubs would make me kinda jumpy.  Hope you get your bird.
