Question! to all you turkey hunters
« on: May 15, 2011, 11:41:45 AM »
When there are 2 of you hunting together in the same area
what is your preferred method of hunting....

1) do you stay and hunt together and work like a team?

or

2) do you split up so you can cover more ground? like others ends of a field etc etc

what are your thoughts?

My buddy and I hunt a good deal alone but when we get the chance to go out together we work as a team and sit under the same tree. It's just more fun sharing a hunt together.

Best to stay together , there are to many story's of  two hunters in the same area that end up shooting one another . In fact that is the reason that the cousin only let one hunter with a gun on his property at a the , many years ago he let two hunters ( that where buddies and had hunted together before ) on his land and ended up taking one to have 12 pieces of shoot taken out at the local hospital . The other hunter thought that he was a turkey as he was walking back to meet his a hour early . What ever you do stay safe .

We talk about where each other is going and split up.  If we move to another area, we talk on the radio.

Sometimes we work as a team together, other times, depending on the area and situation we split up.

I think it depends ont he situation. it's always fun to have a partner with you to share the hunt with. And a benefit to have someone call for you too. But if you're in GOOD contact at all times and positioned a good ways apart, splitting up and covering more ground can work too.

That being said, I like to hunt together, as you don't have two people calling to the birds and drawing them in two directions. As a team you have one position to call them to and I think it increases your chances.

I most often hunt with a buddy.  We can work together, no two turkeys or callers sound alike.  Plus if the action is slow then I got someone to chat with!  Some of the tactics already discussed work too!  But it is always more fun to share experiences with someone.
