Fooled Again!
« on: May 14, 2011, 01:09:48 PM »
The two big gobblers that I've been chasing continue to elude me! They came in today but stopped about 50 yds short again and went down over the ridge again. Heard them gobbling below me but wouldn't come up. They continue to stop short and I've been thinking they are hanging up but I might be re-thinking this. Let me know what you think. I think (I understand they are smarter than us a lot!) that when they drop down over this ridge might be their normal travel route. The ridge overlooks a huge field that I hear the gobblers in on occasion. Do you think they are gobbling on top of the ridge to any hens below and looking over the fields? They they drop down to a ledge and make their way down to the fields below. They came in that one day to the decoy but did hang up because they apparently didn't like the decoy? Since then they come in but hang around about 50 yards and gobble for a little bit from where I am and then drop down. Maybe they are not hanging up at all? I'm going to move close to where they drop down next week and see what happens. Any opinions?

move to the top of the ridge where they drop behind the ridge and they'll walk right up to you.  that seems to be there travel pattern and move your dekes closer to the ridge top but parallel to your off side.

If you have them patterned , move to a closer spot--maybe to the down hill area.  @--0--0101

Use a blind and put some hen decoys on the ground near a Jake fan. Worked for me yesterday. @--0--0133
