Well the Georgia turkey season ends Sunday. Today was the final day of my season this year. While I failed in my persuit to harvest a bird it was an amazing season. Just the opportunity to get outdoors and enjoy my passion was a blessing in itself. Our season was odd to say the least this year. Lots of rain, tornadoes, the hatch of the 13 year locust and the birds just not being very vocal. I had the opportunity to get drawn for a hunt on Piedmont National Wildlife Refuge. My 5 day hunt was during the tornadoes that hit in the south so the weather was not the best and the flooding that occurred made chasing those thunder chickens tough to say the least. I did pass on a Jake and had a nice long beard at 65 yards but just didn't pull the trigger.

I will say that the Locust hatch was one thing I'll never forget. While at Piedmont there were millions and I do mean millions of these insects. Once the sun come up the chatter these insect made was unbelievable and it lasted the entire day. What an amazing sound it just hard to describe, but it dominated the entire woods. For you guys up north that are just getting started the best of luck to you. Now I'll be turning my attention to summer food plots and get ready for archery season in September.

the spirit of the hunt is more valuable sometimes than the harvest of game.

My season will end tomorrow, I was unable to get out this evening fue to some lightening in the area--Did not think was a good idea to walk or sit in the woods with a lightening rod in my hand....Tomorrow AM is suppose to be worse and maybe can still get out there tomorrow night--playing it by ear.  Tomorrow night ends my season.

That's why they call it hunting my friend and not killing. Those seasons with empty tags are the ones that drive me to the next one. I know that you had a great time during the chase and we all learn from those experiences. I'm still in the chase mode now myself, and still have two more weeks to get it done.

Haven't gotten the opportunity to go at all this year, Split.  TCB.  Guess the enjoyment of just being out there will be the trophy for you this year.  Good luck on your food plots!
