Alabama/Tennessee Wrap up
« on: May 09, 2011, 03:47:47 PM »
I know Rocky top has a few days left but we are calling it quits......
It has been a tough one for us this year.
The group I hunt with all over the state and Tennessee was only able to harvest 14 longbeards total.   we are use to killin five in Alabama apiece and then three apiece in Tennessee.  I'm not sure if the numbers are down or what the deal was in Alabama.

What do you fellow Bama Turkey Killers think?

But anyways it was nice to get some new guys into the sport this year and I always feel blessed to get out there so I'm not gonna complain.  There is always next season.

Good luck to all you Northern Guys, I wish you a many a gobble.
Hunting is a way of life: Love it, Teach it, Live it. But most of all.... RESPECT IT and pass it on!

I got the chance to hunt a good deal this year on the Lowndes county Wildlife management area and their numbers were down compared to last year. There were a lot more bigger bearded birds and heavier weights killed on this land than in the past though.I killed one off there this year and he had a 10.5 inch beard with one inch spurs and weighed 16.5 lbs. Not a very good year for turkey hunters in Alabama. There was not a whole lot of gobbling in a lot of places in the state.

Sounds like you still had a good season. I hope ours starts to pick up, and like DPD said the weather is starting to give us a break. Hopefully this weekend will be good for us.

Tornadoes came right down Geiger so we will wait for the next deer season and turkey season to see how things played out. Right now most folks in Geiger have other pressing things on their minds. The home next to the property I hunt is gone.

I think the fact that it got warm in february, then cold in march, then warm again had a lot to do with it. Weird weather this spring in Alabama.
