Dad got my bird
« on: May 04, 2011, 02:54:14 PM »
Well, my dad got the big bird that had me stumped in the weather last weekend.  His first morning of his season and he had a 22 pounder with 10 inch beard down by 7 am.  I told him he would have a good chance if the weather cooperated from what I saw out there, I just couldn't get the birds to cross the fields with the rain/snow and high winds.  On Sunday I saw this bird at about 300 yards out on another property, but he had a nice morning and got him to come in from that same spot with about an hour of working him.

He just seems to have all the luck turkey hunting.  I think he has been hunting them for about 10 years now and got a bird every time except for once.  And that is in MN where you have to apply for a certain 5 day hunting period, he has gotten drawn every year also.  I have only got 1 bird in 3 years and haven't gotten drawn 3 times, and got bad weather every time except for the 1 year I got a bird because it was late May.  At least he'll probably cherish it more than I would, he's more into turkey hunting and I'm more of a deer hunter anyways.
