Hunted today
« on: April 29, 2011, 12:23:17 PM »
I went hunting this morning and what a great morning to be in the woods!!! clear and cool just wet enough so you could sneak around-- Just one thing wrong no gobblin'  @--0--0128 No biggie for me I went to an Oak covered knob- highest point on the place-- Got set up and did some blind calling for 3 hours nothing!!! No gobblin'! My luck is still holding. i ha dto leave at 9am so I could get to work on the way home I passed a large field with 3 strutters in it binos revealed 3 longbeards with 3 hens having a party!! Before you ask no I could not get permission to hunt this farm, I try every year- They got one guy that hunts it and as long as he wants to hunt it they will not let anyone else hunt-- He don't even turkey hunt. I even tried to get him to let me take him to try and get a bird and he is not interested. I am done now with the pity party it is officially over I am back-- I guess I'll just have to kill him tomorrow!! @--0--0118

And if it weren't for bad luck, we'd have no luck at all - better luck tomorrow / at least you get to go, I'm sanctioned to a honey-do list tomorrow

Stay with it, they're out there! Went opening day in Maryland last week and four hours and not a gobble. Went the next day, same place and gobbling all over the place. One close and worked him for 1 1/2 hours and he finally left without any 6 shot holes! Turkeys are challenging, one day hot, one day not!

I have been lucky enough to get out all fo three times so far in the Virginia Season thanks to a few local friends that gave me one time access to property to hunt.  I heard a few birds the second day but they were across a small river and hung up there.  The river is the property line.  The loudest bird I heard was really far back behind my house of property I cannot hunt.  I know he roosted back there but I was not able to get him fired up at all the next morning and coming toward my place.

Offer to give the guy the bird if you get one in exchange to future hunting.  ;-D

Keep at it.  As my dad always told me, it only takes one!
