Thanks for the welcome guys.

There is another cool story to this deer.  My grandfather gave me the rifle that I took the deer with (Golden Spike Winchester 30/30).  I did not get to hunt with the rifle for many years because I hunted in a shotgun only County.  So when I started hunting this new place that allowed rifles, I was excited to take a deer with it.  I was like a kid at Christmas when this buck, sorry antelope, came into range.  I was so excited, my first shot missed, but luckily the deer only took a few steps and stopped.  I then put the rare species down and let out a victory yell that had my hunting buddy calling on the radio to make sure I was OK.  It was a great day.  I then was happy to retire this great looking rifle to a plaque and a spot on the wall in my office.  It truly is a special treasure of mine and it was great to take one great animal with it.

Great picture - obviously the result of a talented photographer (I outta know, I took it.)  I'll refrain from commenting on that antelope theory but it was very tasty.

Welcome from NC.  My first buck was also a spike, but I called mine a billy goat. @--0--0105  I know it was special taking with a family heirloom.  Look forward to more stories.  Good luck!
There is something about sitting in a tripod stand in the middle of a cutover on a freezing cold morning, looking up at the big dipper and waiting on the sunrise, that makes a man feel shiny and new.

I think some of you guys are wrong about that being the Eastern Antelope. I sure that that's the Eastern White Tailed Prong Horn Antelope.

I have my Dad's old Browning Auto 5, that he gave me a few months before his death. I'm having it reblued and the stock and forearm refinished. I plan to honor him by using it for every possible type of hunt that I can. To heck with the resale value. I shot that shotgun for the 1st time 53 years ago.
