Favorite Turkey Load
« on: January 26, 2011, 02:12:50 PM »
Now that deer season has ended or about too. It's time to start thinking about those gobbling maniacs of the early morning.  I have a new Benelli shotgun and need to choose turkey load.  So I would like to know what works best for everyone:

What's your favorite 12 gauge turkey load?

What size 12 gauge shell do you prefer?  2-3/4, 3 or 3-1/2

What's your favorite brand of shot shells?

I shoot 12 gauge 6's in 3". There are several brands that r good these days. The loads with heavy shot are great.
Don't shoot the 3.5" anymore because I had a shot rep as Bass Pro Shops explain to me that the extra was just a waste on Turkey loads. Kind of like the 150 grains of powder on a Muzzle Loader is a waste so I went back to 100 grains.

hevi-shot 2 3/4 inch number 5 or six in my tight choke model 12 winchester that my dad bought in 1947 i think.  good out to 40 yard killing zone for me.

Those are probably the most awesome loads out there. The will flat hold a pattern WAAAAY OUT THERE!!! They are a little on the pricey side though.  You talk about jelly headin one inside of thirty. Those will do it with ease.
