We had a great time this weekend for the Youth Hunt and the Primitive Weapons Special Season. Not many deer were seen, but it was a beautiful weekend and we even got a little rain on Saturday night.
The primitive weapons hunt didn't produce anything, it was too warm, but that's common for the Deep South. We have over a month yet before our rut.
The Youth Hunt was successful. We had the two Bowen brothers hunting with us this weekend. Branson Bowen was hunting with our TH member Elbis on his personal stand and food plot Saturday evening, and right at 5 PM two bucks came into the food plot. One was high rack 4 point and the other was a nice basket rack 8 point. Branson decided on the 8 point, even though the 4 point was a bigger bodied deer. He could have taken either legally for the youth hunt. It only took one round with his .243 to the shoulder, no tracking was required. His 8 point weighed 125 pounds and was healthy and fat. It is a great trophy for a first buck and a story that will be retold for many years. Here is the link to his trophy, http://thedeercamp.ning.com/photo/albums/branson-bowen
