surrounded by birds
« on: October 20, 2010, 08:37:48 PM »
last Saturday while bow hunting, I heard wings flapping, looked over and got to watch a large turkey roost in a tree about 60 yds out from me. It sat there for about 2 min and flew down. 10 min later I was hearing birds call all around me. Since we can take turkey in our bow season and since the deer weren't cooperating (yet) I dug my slate out and began calling to them. I played with the birds for an hour, couldn't get one to step out into my foodplot where I could see it. But I did get busted out by a crafty old Tom that came in silently behind me and busted me out as I moved to slide my slate back into my jacket pocket! about an hour after the birds wandered off the deer finally made an appearance (also behind me) must been tipped off by the turkeys! I had some roost about 50 yards from me opening day.  Had a great time just watching them hopping from limb to limb.
