Give NBA a shot

« on: July 18, 2010, 05:48:41 PM »

I am becoming ever increasingly interested in opening an indoor archery range in my area. At this time no such range exists.

Any of you business like people have any input on how I would go about building out a range, proper setup, rules, etc.

I dont have any ranges to visit locally for input and I haven't exactly seen a guide on how to get started.

maybe if I figure it out I can write a "Setting up a Archery Range for Dummies handbook".

Just a brainstorm idea that popped into my head and hopefully something that would help out the local archery community.

My only suggestion would be having it to at least 30 yards. 20 yards will be the main yardage, but if you ever decided to hold leagues like 3D it will help make your set-up even more fun and it'll draw in more people.

Look at TalkHunting's achery target sponsors for help. Pacific Bow Butts and American Whitetail both have archery targets designed for range use. Find you a nice big open metal building. You should be able to frame in the front as a small bow shop, and leave the back open for the range. I think it is a great idea. I have thought about it myself. It's so hot in the summer here, and by the time it cools down in the afternoon, the bugs are all over you. Good Luck!!!

I agree. Being able to shoot 30 and 40 yards inside would be nice!!!

That would give you the advantage! I have never been to a inside range were you could shoot over 25 yards!! I think you should make a run at it!

I need a business partner first.   Finding a location would be easy now as just about every other commercial space is now empty here.

Adding a 3rd/4th job on my plate right now would be tough without support.

Weird, I was actually having this conversation with someone else this past weekend.

Good luck; it is a good idea and insurance for this has to be cheaper than for an indoor gun range!

Everywhere I've gone we've wished for a 30 yard range. There is a shop across the border that has one and they have a huge turn out for 3D and regular shoooting.

Check the liability insurance before you do anything. That can make or break a place like that.

My thought process was that I am "liable" to kill you if you hurt someone or something.

Seriously, that kills a lot of business's right there.

Sounds like a great idea! And yes, i would definitely do some research on insurance first.
